Perrigo Park Picnic

July 30, 2004. Our group of friends have our monthly potluck at Perrigo Park in Redmond. We reserved the picnic tables under the shelter and everyone brought a dish to share. It’s really fun to watch the kids play together. Tina organized a set of sack races for the kids and everyone participated. Katherine had a great time watching the older kids do the sack races and she participated in “round 2” of the sack races assisted by mom.

Patty, Paulette, Danielle and “the boys” showed up at the park also. Katherine had a great time playing with them on the jungle gym and rocking toys. I’ve posted a lot of pictures to share.

What is up with the blog?

I updated the blog last weekend, but it didn’t post for some reason (hm). So, here are two batches of pictures from our last two weekends. You can see that one of our family projects this weekend was washing our very dirty cars. Katherine took it as her personal mission to make sure that our bucket remained full of soapy water – “more soap.” She must have put several tablespoons of dishwashing soap into the bucket. She even decided that “tata” had her own towel! The amusing part of this story is that Steve decided to futz with a PC to get some music. About 20 minutes later, I had finished the sedan and K had started in on the wagon! One hour later our cars were washed, vacuumed and wiped down. We even excavated K’s car seats.

Shiver

One of Katherine’s new words when she’s cold is “shiver.” On Sunday, she got sopping wet and we ended up stripping her and changing her clothes. Last night, I walked in the house and found K standing at the back door. She looked very unhappy, saying “Shiver….hold me.” So, I pulled her up and within 30 seconds, she had gotten sick all over me. I was racing up the stairways and to the bathway, thereby ensuring that Steve had quite the cleanup job. ๐Ÿ™‚

She doesn’t really have a fever, just a slight 99.5 at most. But, she does have a slight stomach bug. Tonight she had crackers and applesauce for a quick snack. What’s unheard of for her is that she sat on my “lap” and read books tonight. We watched 10 minutes of Olympic swimming (TV is a treat only when she’s sick!), with her cuddled on a pillow under a blanket on the couch. It’s amazing, even when she’s sick she still kept me on my toes tonight.

Swim Party

We went to a swim party this past Saturday to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Part of the fun was watching Steve blow up some of the plastic animals. Well, it took a while but Katherine finally ventured onto a plastic bee with Steve. ๐Ÿ™‚

Long awaited pictures

Katherine is so funny. This morning, Katherine and Steve got up early. They came over to say hi, and Steve prefaced this with “be very quiet…shhh.” Well, Katherine walks over, looks at me and says (normal voice), “I see Mama, I see Mama.” After she clambers on the bed, she starts saying “Hi Dada Hi Dada” and waving at Steve. Then she peeks down at me and says “quiet…shhhh.” Of course, I’m trying not to laugh and am totally awake.

Katherine is mastering the two and three word phrase. It ranges from “please sit/open” or “see dada/b/etc” or other combinations. Her vocabulary is about 250 words, but she’s able to string them together now. She’s also learning her abc’s, which go like “aaaa bbbb seeda.” Steve and I have spent the last week saying “aaaa bbbb cccc deeee.” She would say “no ….aaaa bbbb seeda!” We try so hard not to laugh when these things happen.
